Apple - Jordan - funny support!!!!

Apple around the world is a higher priced product than their PC counterpart. TRUE. But, it is by far a greater and better product than the PC - so far, I wouldn't think of ever spending another penny on a Wintel machine. I'm a MAC convert all the way...even for home-entertainment systems. Apple is the way to be!

Had picked up a PB-G4 15.2" machine last summer, whereby a couple of months later as I was upgrading its RAM, the actual RAM slots went bust! That was hard to believe or understand, it's a brand-new machine and yet it's RAM slots went bust, - too early too soon for a malfunction. I felt devestated. But, hey, it's an APPLE, they'll do the service for Free, I'm sure. I did some research on the net, and found that quite a few customers had reported the same, and had their laptops' board replaced. Wooohooo, warranty was perfect, it's an USD 800 replacement board for FREE. Thanks to some advertising by HeidelBerg in JO magazine, bumped into them as a support centre, and gone ahead with contacting them. After supplying all the necessary information, 6 weeks later, I had a brand new board, with my full RAM working. GREAT!!! The exchange program for this problem.

Now recently, Apple went ahead with a battery recall program, (I'm certain all have read about Sony's batteries setting laptops ablaze), as some of their machines had faulty batteries. Unfortunately again, my laptop happened to have one of those ready-to-go-on-fire batteries, mind you though, for over a year I hadn't bumped into that problem, however, the base of the laptop was always HOT. So anyhow, I went ahead and contacted iSystem in Sweifiyah about it, and the guy over there responds that I'd have to purchase a new battery and cannot exchange it, after spending a couple of minutes with the guy trying to explain it's a free exchange, refer to Apple's website for info, he was adamant on me purchasing a new battery. I refused, and moved onto Heidelberg. Sure enough, they were gladly willing to help, I sent them all the necessary information about the purchase etc. They said, please bare with us, will get back to you once we have any developments. Suffice to say, 6 weeks later they had a new battery for me.

I head across to their office, and the guy from the storage is not there, so the girl helping me out pops down and collects an open box carrying a battery. Comes back up, and fills out a form that I have to sign for receiving the battery. I head home, and for a some reason or other before plugging in the new battery, I decide to check Apple site again, STOP a minute, have I gone blind, did they just give me this battery

Model number: A1148
Serial number: 3K548xxxxxxxxx

What the !!!!! Hell, must be mistaken. I wait till next morning then call them up again. The girl that passed me the battery apologized, and said let me get back to you on this. It's weird. I get a call from another guy in the company (perhaps manager, don't know), whom tells me that the battery is perfectly fine nothing wrong with it, and I should plug it in, and if it causes any problems the worst would be a Batteria Manfukha (blown-up battery) what the !!!! I said, Absolutely NOT, I'm not plugging it in, please check your records, its a faulty battery! The guy answers he'll contact Apple and will get back to me on it. A couple of hours later I get a call from another guy there, requesting that I send a photo of the battery's Model / Serial number. Fair enough, I scan it, and shoot it across.

Later on I think to myself, perhaps the battery given to me, was a faulty exchanged battery, and the girl had accidentally passed it along. So, I emailed the guy mentioning this, as the battery box had been open and wasn't sealed, perhaps its a returnee. The guy promptly writes back early this morning saying, please be patient, it's NOT a returnee, it's your replacement battery. Wait till we hear from Apple on it. 15minutes later, he forwards me the following,

The apple confirmed that The battery you received is the replacement for your affected battery, and it's your decision to accept it or not. regards.
----------------
What am I to understand now, Apple is sending out recalled batteries replacing other recalled batteries. And, they've picked me as one of the recipients to such batteries. I've just emailed Apple Europe and US inquiring about this.

I don't know who to point out the error too, the Service Center in Jordan or Apple themselves.

I'm keeping the battery out of my machine till further feedback from them.....

By the way Isam had written another posting on battery recall for his Apple here! Apple in the ME should seriously consider opening their own Shops around, and not rely on Resellers.
